PMs of India and New Zealand met in Auckland on 11 July 2026 and announced the India-New Zealand Strategic Partnership.
They endorsed the 'Roadmap to 2030', a shared framework to guide cooperation over the next four years across six pillars.
The pillars cover political-diplomatic ties, defence-security, trade-economic cooperation, people-culture-sport, education-S&T-disaster management, and regional-multilateral cooperation.
Bilateral trade target: double two-way trade in goods and services to NZ$7 billion (₹35,000 crore) by 2030.
The Roadmap creates no financial commitments and is not legally binding under domestic or international law.
Deepen high-level and institutional contact
Key: Regular PM/ministerial visits, Foreign Ministers' Dialogue, annual Secretary-level review meetings
Expand military, maritime and counter-terror ties
Key: Implements 2025 Defence MoU, Maritime Cooperation Arrangement, Mutual Logistics Support Arrangement, annual Maritime Security Dialogue, JWG on Counter-Terrorism, Cyber Dialogue
Double bilateral trade and advance the FTA
Key: Push for early entry into force of India-NZ FTA; operationalise AEO-MRA; cooperation in horticulture, forestry, dairying and tourism
Strengthen people-to-people and cultural links
Key: Diaspora engagement, Joint Action Plan on Sport, Cultural Cooperation Arrangement, seafarer certificate recognition
Build institutional and research partnerships
Key: Implements 2025 Education Cooperation Arrangement; engagement via International Solar Alliance and Global Biofuels Alliance; NDMA-NEMA disaster cooperation
Coordinate on Indo-Pacific and UN reform
Key: Support for a rules-based Indo-Pacific under UNCLOS; mutual support for India's UNSC permanent membership candidature
Explicitly stated to give rise to no financial commitments and create no legally binding rights or obligations under domestic or international law
