On the night of 15-16 July 2026, an armed gang of 25-30 men stole a 16th-century, ~3,500 kg Scindia-era cannon from Narwar Fort in Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh.

The thieves wrapped the cannon in mattresses, lowered it nearly 3,000 feet downhill on an iron trolley, and loaded it onto a vehicle, in what investigators suspect is an organised international antique-smuggling operation.

The cannon, one of 14 historic Scindia-period cannons kept at the fort's Open Court, is estimated to be worth Rs 3-5 crore on the international antique black market.

The search later widened to Rajasthan's Karauli district, following leads that the cannon may have been moved to Hindaun.
