India's Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA) issued an advisory (Circular No. 36 of 2026) around 17 July 2026, directing ship owners, ship managers and RPSL companies to avoid deploying Indian seafarers on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz until further orders.
The advisory followed a series of attacks on merchant vessels in the region — including the Mombasa B, Al Bahyah, GFS Galaxy, MT Wedyan and Al Rekayyat — amid heightened Gulf security tensions.
DGMA, the apex Indian maritime authority (established September 1949, HQ Mumbai, under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways), asked affected seafarers/vessels to contact its Communication Centre (MMDAC) or the Navy's Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) for emergency assistance.
