The Digital Local Pass replaces the earlier paperwork-heavy process where nearby residents had to visit toll booths in person to prove eligibility for a local pass. The new system verifies address, vehicle registration and FASTag details automatically through consent-based integration with DigiLocker and VAHAN. The RajmargYatra app itself has already sold more than 80 lakh Annual Passes digitally, and these two features extend that digitisation push.

Local, short-distance commuters near toll plazas are among the most frequent toll users, and manual local-pass verification was a persistent bottleneck. Automating it — alongside an AI grievance channel in MargMitra — cuts queues and paperwork while building out NHAI's broader digital highway ecosystem.
