Turbofan Engine

Simple Analogy: Think of it as a small jet engine scaled down and optimised to fit inside a missile's airframe rather than under an aircraft's wing.

The Yantur programme has completed conceptual and detailed design and moved to subsystem testing and validation ahead of certification. Paninian describes it as a fully indigenous effort, now seeking access to specialised test facilities — including compressor/turbine rigs and high-altitude testing infrastructure — to move toward certification.

Cruise missile and combat drone propulsion has historically depended on imported or DRDO-developed engines. A private-sector turbofan under India's Make-I self-reliance category, if certified, would add a domestic industrial source for a critical, previously import-dependent component.
