PIB published a feature, 'White Gold: India's Cotton Story — From Seed to Shirt', highlighting India's cotton sector and recent government initiatives to boost productivity, quality and global competitiveness.
India is the only country cultivating all four recognised cotton species, ranks first in cultivated area and second in production/consumption, and supports nearly 6 million cotton farmers and 40-50 million textile-chain jobs.
