Medical Innovations Patent Mitra is an ICMR initiative for transferring and commercialising publicly funded biomedical research, connecting ICMR's research institutes with industry partners for licensing, product development and scale-up. SHetA2, licensed to Emcure, was developed through collaboration between Dr Showket Hussain of ICMR-NICPR and Dr Doris M. Benbrook of the Stephenson Cancer Center, University of Oklahoma, USA, and targets Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia (CIN), a precancerous cervical condition linked to HPV infection. The two vaccine technologies licensed to Biological E were developed at ICMR-NIRBI, Kolkata — a fusion protein-based typhoid vaccine targeting Salmonella typhi, and a recombinant vaccine aimed at broader protection against S. typhi, S. paratyphi and Shigella.
