The Union Minister for Culture and Tourism launched an 'As Seen on Netflix' section on the Incredible India portal.
It is part of an ongoing collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and Netflix India.
The section lets audiences discover the real locations, cultural traditions and experiences featured in Netflix India's films and series.
The launch coincided with an event at the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, marking ten years of Netflix in India.
Netflix Co-Chief Executive Officer Mr Ted Sarandos joined the Minister for a conversation on storytelling, cultural heritage and the creative economy.
Film-induced tourism is the well-documented phenomenon of people travelling to places because they have seen them on screen. It works differently from conventional destination marketing in two ways. First, the exposure is incidental rather than promotional - a viewer absorbs a landscape over several hours of narrative without perceiving it as advertising, which makes the impression more durable than a tourism campaign. Second, it reaches audiences who were not in the market for a holiday when they encountered the destination. The constraint has always been conversion: a viewer moved by a location usually cannot identify where it was, and the interest dissipates. That is precisely the gap an 'As Seen on Netflix' section on a national tourism portal closes - it converts recognition into an itinerary by naming the place and linking it to how one might actually visit. The wider framing here is the creative economy, the sector spanning film, television, animation, gaming, music and digital media, which India has been positioning as an export and employment sector rather than only a cultural one. Streaming platforms matter to that positioning because their distribution is global by default, so an Indian location or tradition featured on one is visible in a hundred-odd countries simultaneously.
Simple Analogy: The series makes the viewer want to go; the portal tells them where it was.
