The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) published 'Forests for food: Nourishing people, sustaining the planet' on 15 September 2026, developed jointly with the Landscape Alliance.
The report links forests to all four dimensions of food security and nutrition: availability, access, utilisation and stability.
Over 5 billion people depend on forests to some extent for livelihoods, and about 1.8 billion rely on woodfuel for cooking.
The world lost an average of 10.9 million hectares of forest a year to deforestation in the decade to 2025, the report notes.
Deforestation is forest converted to other land use: 10.9 million ha a year in 2015-2025, down from 17.6 million ha in 1990-2000. Net loss subtracts forest expansion (6.78 million ha a year), giving 4.12 million ha a year, down from 10.7 million ha in 1990-2000.
Simple Analogy: Deforestation is money spent; net loss is spending minus new income.

In the context of food and nutritional security of India, enhancing the 'Seed Replacement Rates' of various crops helps in achieving the food production targets of the future. But what is/are the constraint/constraints in its wider/greater implementation? 1. There is no National Seeds Policy in place. 2. There is no participation of private sector seed companies in the supply of quality seeds of vegetables and planting materials of horticultural crops. 3. There is a demand-supply gap regarding quality seeds in case of low value and high volume crops. Select the correct answer using the code given below.
Answer: 3 only
Availability, access, utilisation and stability, the FAO framework the report maps forests against.
Deforestation minus forest expansion; 4.12 million ha a year in 2015-2025 per FRA 2025.
Fuelwood and charcoal used for cooking and heating; about 1.8 billion people rely on it for cooking.
