The Film Federation of India (FFI) on 18 September 2026 picked Santosh Davakhar's Marathi thriller Gondhal as India's entry for Best International Feature Film at the 99th Academy Awards.
A 12-member jury chaired by P. Sheshadri chose it from 33 films submitted in several Indian languages.
Gondhal is the fourth Marathi film sent to the Oscars, after Shwaas (2005), Harishchandrachi Factory (2009) and Court (2015).
Davakhar won the Silver Peacock for Best Director for Gondhal at the 56th IFFI (2025). The 99th Oscars ceremony is scheduled for 14 March 2027 in Los Angeles.
