World Bamboo Day was observed on 18 September 2026 with the theme 'Bamboo for a Regenerative Future: A Global Call to Grow, Build and Prosper with Nature'.
The World Bamboo Organization (WBO) declared the day in 2009 at the 8th World Bamboo Congress in Bangkok, Thailand.
The 2026 campaign focuses on bamboo for land restoration, climate action, rural livelihoods and a low-carbon bioeconomy.
In India, the restructured National Bamboo Mission (2018-19) promotes the bamboo value chain; ISFR 2023 puts the country's bamboo-bearing area at 1,54,670 sq km.
