Ajit Doval is a retired Indian Police Service officer of the 1968 batch, Kerala cadre, who spent much of his career in the Intelligence Bureau before becoming National Security Adviser. He has been associated with major security episodes including Operation Black Thunder, the Doklam standoff negotiations with China, and the Balakot air strike. Earlier in his career he handled assignments in Mizoram, Punjab, Sikkim and Jammu and Kashmir, and served at Indian missions abroad including Islamabad and London.
