A Climate-Resilient Village is a community equipped to prepare for, absorb, recover from and reduce the effects of climate change while still developing economically. In practice it bundles disaster preparedness, climate-smart construction, water management, ecosystem protection, diversified livelihoods and community participation. The distinguishing idea is adaptation rather than relief: instead of responding after a cyclone, the village reduces its vulnerability before one arrives.
Simple Analogy: It is the difference between keeping a first-aid kit and actually getting fit — one treats the damage, the other reduces how much damage happens.
Killai sits on the Tamil Nadu coast in Cuddalore district, next to the Pichavaram mangroves. Mangroves matter here for a practical reason: their dense root systems absorb wave energy and slow storm surge, acting as a natural sea wall for the settlements behind them, while also holding sediment against coastal erosion.
