A large public hospital is difficult to navigate for anyone, and hardest for exactly those who need it most — the elderly, the illiterate, patients arriving from villages, and attendants managing a sick relative in an unfamiliar city. Much of the time lost in such hospitals is not clinical time at all but time spent finding the right counter, the right floor or the right laboratory, and that burden currently falls on nursing and administrative staff who are diverted from their own work to give directions. Placing trained student volunteers in that gap addresses a real inefficiency at very low cost. The design point worth noting is the guardrail: volunteers are explicitly barred from clinical tasks, which is what distinguishes a patient-navigation scheme from the far riskier practice of using untrained hands to fill staffing shortages. The linkage to ABHA identifiers also quietly serves a second objective, extending digital health record coverage through the moment when a patient is already at a hospital counter.
