Willie Walsh took charge as Chief Executive Officer of IndiGo on 3 August 2026, succeeding Pieter Elbers.
He had served as Director General of the International Air Transport Association since April 2021, concluding that tenure on 31 July 2026.
IndiGo's board appointed him on 31 March 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
Walsh previously headed International Airlines Group, the parent of British Airways and Iberia, and earlier led British Airways and Aer Lingus.
Pieter Elbers resigned following the airline's operational crisis of December 2025.
