The Ministry of Home Affairs has notified 11 additional international ports - two airports and nine land ports - for the entry of foreign nationals holding valid Indian e-Visas.
The total number of designated e-Visa entry points rises to 88: 37 airports, 38 seaports and 13 land ports.
The new airports are Bhopal and Tirupati; the new land ports are Agartala, Darranga, Gede, Ghojadanga, Haridaspur, Jaigaon, Dawki, Moreh and Attari (Road).
Nine of the eleven additions are land ports, aimed mainly at travellers arriving overland from neighbouring countries.
India introduced the e-Visa along with Electronic Travel Authorisation in 2014 for nationals of 43 countries; it is now open to citizens of 172 countries across 17 sub-categories.
