United States Central Command announced Task Force Falcon Strike on 13 August 2026, its first multinational, multi-domain attack drone task force for West Asia.
The unit is built around low-cost, one-way attack drones operating above, on and below the sea.
Personnel from US Special Operations Command Central will lead the task force staff, which will include regional military representatives.
It succeeds Task Force Scorpion Strike, set up in December 2025, which made the first aerial attack drone launch from a US Navy warship.
CENTCOM, established in 1983 and headquartered at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, covers 21 nations across West Asia, Central Asia and parts of South Asia.
A one-way attack drone carries its warhead into the target and is destroyed with it, so it is a munition rather than a reusable aircraft. Because each unit is cheap, it can be used in numbers against targets that would otherwise consume expensive precision missiles, and its loss carries no risk to aircrew. Multi-domain operation means the same task force fields systems that fly, that move on the sea surface as unmanned boats, and that operate underwater, so that a commander can combine them against one target set instead of running three separate campaigns.
Simple Analogy: A cruise missile is a bespoke tool used sparingly; a one-way attack drone is closer to ammunition - individually modest, decisive in volume.
