India and Morocco concluded the 7th session of their Joint Commission in Rabat on 25 August 2026, at the end of a two-day visit that began on 24 August.
The session was co-chaired by Jitin Prasada, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and for Electronics and Information Technology, and Omar Hejira, Morocco's Secretary of State to the Minister of Industry and Trade in charge of Foreign Trade.
The two sides signed the agreed minutes of the session and set up a working group to monitor implementation of the decisions taken.
A Cultural Exchange Programme for 2026-2030 was signed, covering exchanges of artists and professionals, participation in festivals and exhibitions, heritage conservation, and links between museums, libraries and archives.
Bilateral merchandise trade stood at about USD 4 billion in 2025; India mainly ships refined petroleum, pharmaceuticals, vehicles, synthetic textiles, food products and spices, while Morocco's exports to India are dominated by phosphates and fertilisers.
Morocco lies in the Maghreb region of North Africa - not North America, an error that appears in some study material. It borders Algeria to the east and the disputed territory of Western Sahara to the south, and is the only African country with coastlines on both the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The narrow Strait of Gibraltar separates it from Spain and links the Mediterranean to the Atlantic. Rabat is the capital. The Atlas Mountains run through the country; their highest point, Jebel Toubkal at 4,167 metres, is also the highest peak in North Africa. The Moulouya, rising in the Atlas and flowing to the Mediterranean, is the country's most significant river. Most of the north, especially along the coasts, has a Mediterranean climate of mild wet winters and hot dry summers. Mineral resources include phosphates, iron ore, barite, manganese, lead and zinc.
Tata Advanced Systems Limited opened its first overseas defence facility at Berrechid in Morocco, inaugurated in September 2025 by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. It builds the Wheeled Armoured Platform (WhAP) 8x8, co-developed by TASL and the DRDO, with 150 vehicles contracted for the Moroccan armed forces; the first batch was delivered in December 2025.
Morocco's OCP Group has repeatedly contracted large volumes of di-ammonium phosphate and triple super phosphate for Indian buyers, making it central to India's kharif and rabi input planning.
