Gujarat announced its State Child Protection Policy 2026 on 14 September 2026, effective from its publication in the state Gazette.
It adopts zero tolerance towards violence, exploitation, abuse, neglect and discrimination against children, across schools, healthcare, care institutions, workplaces, public places and digital platforms.
Professionals must report suspected abuse to child helpline 1098/112, the police or the Child Welfare Committee; institutions must police-verify staff and volunteers who deal with children.
The Social Justice and Empowerment Department is the nodal department; the Gujarat State Child Protection Society oversees implementation.
The Chief Secretary reviews implementation every year, and the policy itself is reviewed every three years.
Creates Child Welfare Committees (children in need of care and protection), Juvenile Justice Boards (children in conflict with law) and District Child Protection Units; the policy's reporting channel runs to the CWC
Protects every person below 18 from sexual offences, with mandatory reporting and child-friendly procedures; staff training under the policy must cover it
