On the evening of 15 September 2026, the Pakistan Navy ship PNS Hunain collided with an Indian Navy warship in international waters in the North Arabian Sea. It had been moving at high speed close to the Indian ship.
On 16 September the MEA summoned Pakistan's Chargé d'Affaires in New Delhi and lodged a strong protest over 'unacceptable and unprofessional conduct'.
India said the collision directly breached Article 10 of the 6 April 1991 India-Pakistan Agreement on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troop Movements, which keeps naval ships and submarines at least three nautical miles (about 5.56 km) apart in international waters.
PNS Hunain is a Yarmook-class offshore patrol vessel built by Damen in Romania and commissioned in July 2024. India reported no damage to its own ship.
Requires advance notice of major exercises (60 days for corps level, 90 for army level), limits exercises near the border, and in Article 10 sets the 3 nm naval separation that India says Pakistan broke.
Signed on the same day. Combat aircraft must stay 10 km from the other side's airspace, including the ADIZ, and 5 km when flying from specified forward air bases.
