For the first time, three Great Indian Bustard chicks were shifted to a newly built rewilding tunnel in Rajasthan.
The tunnel is at the GIB Conservation and Breeding Centre in Ramdevra, Jaisalmer.
It is designed to train captive-bred chicks for survival in the wild with minimal human contact.
The chicks will spend three to four months there before being released into Desert National Park.

Birds bred in captivity often imprint on humans and never learn to fly far, find food or avoid predators, so releasing them straight into the wild fails. A rewilding facility solves this by simulating natural conditions — native vegetation, desert weather, insects — while keeping human contact to a minimum, so the chicks develop real survival skills before release. It is the bridge between captive breeding and a self-sustaining wild population.
