The Minister of State for Education informed the Lok Sabha that 13,092 schools have been selected as PM SHRI schools nationally, against the scheme's target of upgrading about 14,500 schools.
Uttar Pradesh has the highest count (1,888 schools), followed by Andhra Pradesh (982) and Maharashtra (946).
The reply also gave State/UT-wise teacher appointments for non-Hindi native languages under PM SHRI — 6,102 Sanskrit, 1,994 Urdu and 9,152 regional-language teachers nationally.

NEP 2020 replaced the National Policy on Education, 1986, and reshaped school structure into the 5+3+3+4 pedagogical stages. It mandates Foundational Literacy and Numeracy, instruction in the mother tongue/regional language till at least Grade 5 where possible, and vocational exposure from Grade 6 onward. PM SHRI schools are the government's flagship vehicle to demonstrate these NEP 2020 components on the ground.
Simple Analogy: If NEP 2020 is the blueprint for how schools should work, PM SHRI schools are the show-homes built to that blueprint for other schools to visit and copy.
