MoHUA informed the Rajya Sabha that 127.68 lakh houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0 combined, of which 99.07 lakh have been completed and delivered to beneficiaries as on 13.07.2026.
PMAY-U 2.0 'Housing for All' Mission, running since 01.09.2024 to support 1 crore additional beneficiaries, has sanctioned 16.20 lakh houses so far under its four verticals — Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), Affordable Rental Housing (ARH) and the Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS).
The scheme follows a demand-driven approach with no fixed national target; for Jammu & Kashmir, 45,982 houses (including 2,120 under PMAY-U 2.0) have been sanctioned, of which 35,961 are completed.
Provide affordable pucca housing with basic civic amenities to 1 crore additional eligible urban families over 2024-2029
Key: Approved by the Union Cabinet on 09.08.2024; central assistance outlay ₹2.30 lakh crore against a total investment of ~₹10 lakh crore; implemented through 4 verticals
Support eligible households to construct or enhance a house on their own eligible land
Key: Central assistance goes directly to the individual beneficiary rather than through a builder/agency
Promote construction of affordable houses in partnership with States/UTs and public/private agencies
Key: Project-based delivery model, distinct from the individual-beneficiary route of BLC
Provide rental housing close to workplaces for urban migrants, industrial workers, working women, students and the urban poor
Key: Two models — converting existing government-funded vacant houses via PPP/public agencies (Model-1), and construct-operate-maintain by private/public entities (Model-2); grew out of the 2020 Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHC) sub-scheme
Provide interest subsidy on home loans to EWS, LIG and MIG households for purchase or construction of a house
Key: Replaces the earlier Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS, active 2015 to 31.03.2022, which gave an upfront subsidy); ISS instead spreads the benefit over 5 years of loan repayment
Rural counterpart housing mission providing pucca houses to eligible rural households
Key: Union Cabinet approved 2 crore additional houses for FY2024-25 to FY2028-29 in the same 09.08.2024 meeting as PMAY-U 2.0, with a total outlay of ₹3,06,137 crore and unit assistance of ₹1.20 lakh (plain areas)/₹1.30 lakh (NE & Hill States)
Rural counterpart mission approved in the same 09.08.2024 Cabinet meeting as PMAY-U 2.0, also targeting additional houses (2 crore) with its own outlay and unit-assistance figures — easy to confuse with PMAY-U 2.0's urban figures
2020 sub-scheme of PMAY-U for migrant/EWS workers whose learnings were carried into the dedicated ARH vertical of PMAY-U 2.0

Recurring — PMAY-U/PMAY-U 2.0 progress figures are reported in Parliament almost every session.
Beneficiary Led Construction — central assistance given directly to a household to construct or enhance a house on its own eligible land.
Interest Subsidy Scheme — the PMAY-U 2.0 vertical that replaced CLSS, spreading interest subsidy over 5 years of loan repayment instead of an upfront amount.
