Nepal has allowed travellers to carry Indian Rs 200 and Rs 500 currency notes, up to a combined limit of Rs 25,000 per person.
The decision was taken by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the country's central bank, in late July 2026.
Only notes issued after 9 November 2016 are permitted.
The Reserve Bank of India had amended its FEMA regulations to permit carrying higher-denomination notes.
Pre-2016 Rs 500/Rs 1,000 notes and all Rs 2,000 notes remain banned in Nepal.
