The Cell Broadcast Alert System for disaster warnings runs on the Integrated Alert System (SACHET), based on the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) implemented by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
It integrates five Warning Generating Agencies — IMD, Central Water Commission (CWC), INCOIS, Defence Geoinformatics Research Establishment (DGRE) and Forest Survey of India (FSI) — with State Disaster Management Authorities (SDMAs) of all States/UTs.
Geo-targeted alerts for cyclone, tsunami, flash floods, lightning, avalanche, cloudburst and other short-lead-time disasters are pushed in the local language to all mobile handsets and networks in the affected area.
