The Home Ministry told Parliament that ₹119.09 crore has been released and utilised so far under the National Forensic Infrastructure Enhancement Scheme (NFIES), which has a total outlay of ₹2,254.43 crore for FY2024-25 to FY2028-29.
NFIES funds 9 new campuses of the National Forensic Sciences University (₹1,309.13 crore) and 7 new Central Forensic Science Laboratories (₹860.3 crore), with 6 CFSLs to be co-located with NFSU campuses.
NFSU campuses are already functioning from transit buildings in Nagpur, Raipur, Khordha, Chengalpattu and Jaipur; land has been allotted at five of the nine approved sites.
