Over the last five years, PMGSY has completed 1,31,589 km of road length (18,814 roads, 5,110 bridges) at an expenditure of ₹1,07,942 crore (including State share); under PMGSY-I, 99.7% of 1,63,275 sanctioned habitations (1,62,845) now have connectivity.
Launched 25 December 2000, PMGSY targets all-weather road connectivity to unconnected rural habitations; PMGSY-IV (launched September 2024) targets about 25,000 more habitations, prioritising those under VVP-II.
Quality and transparency tools include OMMAS (online monitoring), GPS-enabled Vehicle Tracking Systems, eMARG (performance-based maintenance payments), and a QR-code-based digital road identity linked to the Meri Sadak app and CPGRAMS.

Every PMGSY road carries a mandatory 5-year maintenance contract (the DLP) after construction, during which the contractor — not the State — is responsible for upkeep, with payments made through eMARG based on the road's actual condition rather than a flat schedule. After the DLP, roads move to a further 5-year Zonal maintenance contract funded by the State/UT
Simple Analogy: It's like a warranty period on a new car — the builder stays on the hook for defects for a fixed period, and how much they get paid for servicing depends on how well the car is actually running, not just that time has passed
