NBA released over ₹24 lakh in Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) payments to a Murrah buffalo farm in Haryana, three national research institutions, and State Biodiversity Boards across 11 states — for commercial use of biological resources they conserved.
Payments covered Murrah buffalo breeding stock, hundreds of crop varieties (rice, mustard, chilli and others), 627 pearl millet and 55 maize varieties, and fish cell cultures/cotton varieties used in research.
With this release, NBA's cumulative ABS disbursement has reached about ₹153 crore since the mechanism began, under the Biological Diversity Act, 2002.
