Air Marshal Sandeep Thareja has been appointed Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) with effect from the afternoon of 31 August 2026.
He was serving as Director General Medical Services (Air) at the time of the appointment.
He succeeds Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, who retires on that date.
An alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, he was commissioned in December 1986.
His work included strengthening AFMS medical preparedness for the Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission and operationalising the BHISHM Cube.
