Air Marshal Sandeep Thareja, currently Director General Medical Services (Air), has been appointed the next Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), succeeding Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin on her retirement on 31 August 2026.
An AFMC Pune alumnus commissioned in December 1986, he holds an MD in Medicine (1997) and a DM in Gastroenterology from AIIMS New Delhi (2005), and has held key posts including Commandant of AFMC Pune.
As DG Medical Services (Air), he strengthened medical preparedness for the Gaganyaan Human Spaceflight Mission and operationalised the BHISHM Cube for rapid medical response.
