India launched a Clouded Leopard Conservation Action Plan, marked on International Clouded Leopard Day, observed on 4 August 2026.
The plan was released during the 91st meeting of the Standing Committee of the National Board for Wild Life at Coimbatore in July 2026.
It was prepared under a Government of India-GEF-UNDP initiative, with the Wildlife Institute of India producing the technical report covering the caracal, fishing cat and clouded leopard.
The plan identifies 14 priority conservation landscapes across Northeast India for habitat restoration and corridor connectivity.
The clouded leopard has been included under the Species Recovery Programme of the Integrated Development of Wildlife Habitats scheme.
