The National e-Governance Division under MeitY has partnered with the Association of Australian Education Representatives in India to launch 'AAERI Verify', a DigiLocker-integrated document verification platform.
The platform was unveiled at the AAERI Annual Convention in New Delhi on 7 August 2026 and works in two stages — a Student Check before application and a Sponsor Check after an admission offer.
With the student's explicit consent, DigiLocker gives Australian universities direct access to digitally signed records from the original issuing authorities.
Established under MeitY in 2009 as an independent business division; supports macro project management, framing of policies and technology appraisals, and manages the platforms that connect the government's digital ecosystem. It is constituted as a Section 8 not-for-profit company.

Digital Public Infrastructure refers to shared, open digital systems — identity, payments and data exchange — on which both government and private services can be built, much as roads carry many kinds of vehicle. DigiLocker is the data-exchange layer of India's DPI stack: instead of a student photocopying a degree certificate and an institution trying to confirm it, the issuing authority itself deposits a digitally signed record, and the student authorises its release to a named recipient. Verification therefore happens at source rather than by inspection of paper. The consent step is what distinguishes this from a database lookup — the document moves only when the holder permits it, which is why the model is described as consent-based rather than surveillance-based.
Simple Analogy: A photocopy of a degree is a claim that must be checked. A DigiLocker record is the university itself handing the document over, with the student holding the key to the door.
