In written replies in the Lok Sabha, the Ministry of Education set out the state of National Education Policy 2020 implementation across school and higher education.
As reported in AISHE 2023-24, more than 700 universities and over 7,500 affiliated colleges have adopted the National Credit Framework, which permits up to 50% of a programme's total credits to be earned through skill-based courses.
India's Gross Enrolment Ratio in higher education rose from 23.7 in 2014-15 to 30 in 2023-24, with female GER rising from 22.9 to 31.2 and total enrolment from 3.42 crore to 4.50 crore.
NCERT, New Delhi was declared an Institution Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 by a Ministry of Education notification dated 30 March 2026, subject to its commencing research, doctoral and innovative academic programmes.
NCERT released the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage on 20 October 2022 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education on 23 August 2023, after consultations engaging over 13 lakh citizens nationally and more than 1,550 district-level consultations across 32 States and UTs.
Four acronyms sit in a stack and exams test the difference between them. The National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) is the levels framework for skill and vocational qualifications, and is the basis for Recognition of Prior Learning. The National Higher Education Qualifications Framework (NHEQF), notified by the UGC, does the same job for higher education degrees. The National Credit Framework (NCrF) is the umbrella that sits above both: it creditises all learning across elementary, school, higher and skill education and establishes academic equivalence between general, vocational and experiential learning, so a learner can move between streams without losing progress. The Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) is the infrastructure — the digital repository where those credits are deposited, stored, transferred and redeemed; it was launched in July 2021 and is regulated by the UGC. APAAR (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) is the student's lifelong unique academic ID linked to that account, tracking the educational journey from pre-primary to higher education. Frameworks define the currency; ABC is the bank; APAAR is the account number.
Simple Analogy: NCrF and NSQF set the exchange rate between a skill course and a degree course. ABC is the bank vault holding your credits. APAAR is your account number.
