The Asian Junior Chess Championships are a continental age-group event for players under 20, held in Open and Girls sections. The 2026 edition drew 157 players from 10 countries to Mumbai and is played in three formats — a nine-round classical Swiss, plus seven-round rapid and blitz events. Blitz uses the shortest time control of the three, so results turn on tactical speed and clock management, and ties on points are broken by tie-break scores rather than replayed. That is exactly how the Open title was settled: Vignesh Vermula finished level with Sharnarthi Viresh and Nandish V S and took gold on tie-break.
