The 7th Meeting of the BRICS Working Group for Cooperation in ICTs opened at Pune on 17 August 2026.
Pune is hosting the five-day BRICS ICT Track from 17 to 21 August 2026, organised by the Department of Telecommunications.
DoT Secretary Amit Agrawal inaugurated the meeting under India's 2026 chairship theme, 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability'.
The agenda covered inclusive digital environments, ICT start-ups, digital skills and trusted Digital Public Infrastructure.
The Council of the BRICS Institute of Future Networks met alongside, reviewing study groups on AI, next-generation communications, Industry 4.0 and electromagnetic field exposure.
DPI refers to reusable, interoperable digital systems — identity, payments and data exchange — on which both government and private services can be built, rather than each service building its own stack. India's Aadhaar, UPI and consent-based data-sharing layers are the standard examples, and 'trusted DPI' on the Pune agenda refers to the governance question that follows: who runs these rails, on what terms, and with what protection for the user. It is the single most exportable item in India's digital policy portfolio, which is why it recurs in every forum India chairs.
Simple Analogy: Roads rather than vehicles — the state lays the surface, and anyone can drive their own service over it.
