A loggerhead sea turtle found struggling on the surface of the sea off the Mazagaon Dock area of Mumbai was rescued by the crew of a patrol boat and reported on 17 August 2026.
The Mangrove Foundation's marine wildlife rescue team took the turtle to a Marine Life Clinic for treatment.
The loggerhead (Caretta caretta) is classified as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List and is protected under Schedule I of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 and Appendix I of CITES.
