A QPU is the hardware that performs quantum computation, the quantum counterpart of a CPU. Superconducting qubits - the type made in this foundry - are built from circuits of materials that conduct electricity with zero resistance, and they must be held at temperatures close to absolute zero inside dilution refrigerators. A crucial distinction for exams: a physical qubit is one piece of hardware, while a logical qubit is an error-corrected unit assembled from many physical qubits. This is why a 10,000-physical-qubit target does not mean 10,000 usable logical qubits.
Simple Analogy: A classical bit is a coin lying heads or tails; a qubit is that coin still spinning, holding both faces at once until it is read. Building a logical qubit from physical ones is like reading many spinning coins together so that one wobbly coin does not spoil the answer.
