India has constituted a 12-member high-powered committee, chaired by the Chairman of the Central Water Commission, to assess the restoration and future management of the Teesta Barrage Project in West Bengal.
The committee was set up on 10 July 2026 and has six months to submit its report; Sikkim and West Bengal are represented at Joint Secretary level or equivalent.
A Joint Detailed Technical Study for a comprehensive Teesta basin management plan began on 6 August 2026.
The review comes as Bangladesh deepens engagement with China on Teesta restoration and management.
