The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, launched the Garbhini Mitra course for the 2026-2027 academic session.
It is a six-month offline skill-development programme training community-level personnel for non-clinical maternal wellness support.
The curriculum rests on three classical Ayurvedic concepts: Garbhadhana Vidhi (pre-conceptional care), Garbhini Paricharya (antenatal care) and Sutika Paricharya (postnatal care).
Intake is capped at 20 students per batch; candidates must be 18 or older and to have passed the Senior Secondary (10+2) examination, with applications closing on 31 August 2026.
Graduates may not perform diagnostic checks or clinical procedures — the role is to complement clinical antenatal care and facilitate timely referrals.
The syllabus is organised around the three stages classical Ayurveda recognises in maternal care. Garbhadhana Vidhi covers pre-conceptional health and preparation. Garbhini Paricharya is the antenatal regimen, structured month by month and trimester by trimester. Sutika Paricharya covers postnatal care and maternal recovery. Onto this frame the course grafts modern non-clinical practice — basic life support, infection control, sanitation standards, workplace safety and biomedical waste handling — so that a trained Garbhini Mitra can support a pregnancy without stepping into clinical territory.
Simple Analogy: Three stages, three names: before conception, during pregnancy, after delivery — the sequence itself is the mnemonic.
