The US National Academy of Engineering (NAE) named Chennai-born computer scientist Sethuraman Panchanathan the 2026 winner of the Arthur M. Bueche Award, announced on 2 September 2026.
He is the first Indian American, and the first Arizonan, to win the award in its more than 40-year history.
He was the 15th Director of the US National Science Foundation (June 2020 - April 2025) and received the Padma Shri in 2025.
The award will be presented on 4 October 2026 at the NAE Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.
