APEDA facilitated the export of 18 metric tonnes of NPOP-certified ethnic rice from Tripura to Austria and the Netherlands.

Four varieties were shipped: Aromatic Kali Khasa, Aromatic Harinarayan, Biron (white sticky rice) and Maimi Hanga (black rice).

●Consignment flagged off 2 September 2026: 18 MT of four ethnic rice varieties from Tripura to Austria and the Netherlands.
●Rice aggregated from Farmer Producer Companies supported by the Tripura State Organic Farming Development Agency (TSOFDA).
●Expected gain for farmers: up to 40% higher price realisation than the domestic market.
●APEDA — the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority — was established under an Act passed in December 1985 that came into force on 13 February 1986, and works under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
●The National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) was launched in 2001 and sets India's standards for organic production, processing, labelling and certification; APEDA implements it.
●NPOP standards are recognised by the European Commission and Switzerland as equivalent for unprocessed plant products, which is what allows this shipment into the EU.
●APEDA is the Secretariat to the National Accreditation Body that accredits organic certification bodies under NPOP.
