The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and Intel India launched Agentic AI skilling programmes on 3 September 2026.
Two courses were launched: Agentic AI for Everyone, covering AI agents, workflow automation and multi-agent systems through no-code platforms, and Engineering Agentic AI Systems for a technical audience.
The launch took place at a National Leadership Dialogue on the theme Preparing the Future Workforce for the Agentic AI Era, held at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi.
The initiative is built around five areas: industry-aligned curricula, experiential learning, faculty readiness, AI-enabled learning environments, and government-academia-industry collaboration.
Courses are to be delivered through NIELIT centres across the country.
Agentic AI describes systems that do not merely produce an output when prompted but pursue a goal across several steps with limited human intervention. Such a system breaks a task into sub-tasks, decides which tools or data sources to call, acts on the result and revises its plan. The distinguishing feature against ordinary predictive or generative models is agency over a sequence: a predictive model answers a question, an agentic system carries out an errand. A multi-agent system goes further, with several such agents dividing work and passing results between them. The skilling implication is that the workforce needs people who can design, supervise and audit these loops, not only people who can write prompts.
Simple Analogy: A predictive model is a calculator that answers when you press equals; an agentic system is an assistant told to file the return, who works out which forms to fetch and in what order.

The launch was framed against the government's stated ambition of large-scale AI skilling, with NIELIT positioning its centre network as the delivery channel.

The beginner course explicitly covers multi-agent systems and workflow automation through no-code platforms, extending the audience beyond programmers.
