India is hosting a leg of the Hyundai World Archery Para Series for the first time, at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, from 5 to 9 September 2026.
The Ahmedabad leg is Stage 3 of the four-stage 2026 circuit, following Bangkok and Nove Mesto in Czechia, with the final stage due in Santiago, Chile, in October.
Competition is held in the Recurve Open, Compound Open, W1 and Visually Impaired divisions.
A 29-member Indian squad takes part, including the Paris 2024 Paralympic medallists Sheetal Devi, Harvinder Singh and Rakesh Kumar, after a training camp at the SAI National Centre of Excellence in Gandhinagar.
The event is organised by the Archery Association of India with the Government of Gujarat, the Sports Authority of Gujarat and the Sports Authority of India, and drew over 100 athletes from around 20 countries.

Para archery groups athletes by functional ability and by the equipment they use, so that competition is between archers facing comparable physical demands rather than between identical impairments. The Recurve Open and Compound Open divisions are defined by bow type - the recurve bow drawn and held by the archer, the compound bow using a cam-and-pulley system that reduces holding weight. W1 is a separate division for archers with impairment affecting all four limbs, who shoot under stricter equipment limits. The Visually Impaired division uses tactile sighting aids, with the archer locating the target by touch rather than sight. World Archery, the international federation, governs both able-bodied and para competition.
Simple Analogy: Like weight categories in boxing, the divisions exist so that the result measures skill rather than the size of the disadvantage.
The Sabarmati Riverfront is a redeveloped urban corridor along the Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and has become the city's standard venue for large open-air sporting and public events. Gandhinagar, about 25 km away, hosts the SAI National Centre of Excellence where the Indian squad trained.
