Meta launched Muse, a personal AI agent, on 8 September 2026, releasing it first to users in the United States; India was not in the launch geography.
Unlike a chatbot, Muse acts on a stated goal — it books and schedules, shops, fills forms, sends emails and keeps working after the app is closed.
Muse runs inside a dedicated sandbox called Muse Secure VM, which has its own browser and computing resources, and a second agent screens what it may send to the internet.
Meta's own security testing flagged prompt injection, tool use, long-running operations and unintended agent behaviour as the main risks.
The launch followed criticism of Meta's Muse Image tool, which let users generate AI content from public Instagram accounts on an opt-out basis and was withdrawn.
Generative AI answers a prompt with content. Agentic AI takes a goal, breaks it into steps, and uses tools — a browser, an email client, a payment page — to complete them with limited human input at each step.
Simple Analogy: A chatbot writes you the recipe; an agent goes out and does the shopping.
| Feature | Generative chatbot | AI agent such as Muse |
|---|---|---|
| Input | A prompt asking for content | A goal stating an outcome |
| Output | Text, image, code or a summary | Actions taken across apps and websites |
| Autonomy | Waits for the next instruction | Plans and executes several steps in sequence |
| Execution environment | Runs in the chat interface | Runs in a sandbox with its own browser and tools |
| Cost of an error | A wrong answer the user can discard | A real-world action — a wrong email, an unwanted purchase |
India's consent framework is opt-in for personal data processing, which is the opposite of the opt-out design that sank Muse Image.
Risk-tiered regulation of AI systems; autonomous agents acting on a user's accounts sharpen the argument for transparency and human oversight duties.
India's national AI programme covers compute, safe-and-trusted AI and application development, the same three problems an agent product runs into.

Create meaningful short stories and songs 3. Disease diagnosis 4. Text-to-Speech Conversion 5. Wireless transmission of electrical energy Select the correct answer using the code given below:
Answer: 1, 3 and 4 only
AI that accepts a goal, plans the steps and executes them using external tools, rather than only generating content.
An attack in which malicious instructions hidden in content the AI reads redirect its behaviour.
The isolated virtual machine, with its own browser and compute, in which Meta runs the Muse agent.
