Gooty Fort, also called Ravadurg or Gutti Kota, is a hilltop fortress in Anantapur district and has been a centrally protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India since 1921.
Its inscriptions date to the Western Chalukya king Vikramaditya VI, and it passed through the Vijayanagara, Qutb Shahi, Mughal, Maratha, Mysore and British hands.
The statute under which the ASI declares monuments of national importance and regulates construction around them; Gooty Fort's central protection dates from 1921, under the colonial-era predecessor law
Created the prohibited area of 100 metres and the regulated area of a further 200 metres around every centrally protected monument, and set up the National Monuments Authority
Gooty sits in the Rayalaseema region of southern Andhra Pradesh, in Anantapur district, on the rocky terrain that made hill forts the standard defensive form in the Deccan.
