IIT Ropar and the Army Air Defence College, Gopalpur signed a Memorandum of Agreement on 10 September 2026 for an MTech programme in Defence Technology for Indian Army officers.
The agreement gives academic accreditation to officers undergoing the Long Air Defence Course at Gopalpur, converting military training into formal postgraduate study.
It was signed by Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director of IIT Ropar, and Lt. Gen. Amit Rao, Commandant of the Army Air Defence College.
It builds on a December 2022 Memorandum of Understanding on academic and research cooperation between the Army Training Command and IIT Ropar.
IIT Ropar faculty will mentor dissertations, and enrolled officers will use IIT Ropar laboratories and attend seminars online and offline.
Declares the Indian Institutes of Technology, including IIT Ropar, to be institutions of national importance and gives them the degree-granting authority under which the MTech in Defence Technology will be awarded.
