India has crossed 80 lakh Human Papillomavirus vaccine doses under the National HPV Vaccination Campaign.
The campaign was launched on 28 February 2026 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Ajmer, Rajasthan, and targets adolescent girls aged 14, about 1.15 crore of them annually.
It uses a single dose of the quadrivalent Gardasil-4 vaccine, given free at government facilities including Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, primary health centres and government medical colleges.
Participation is voluntary and needs parental consent; registration runs through the U-WIN immunisation platform, with vaccination sites linked to 24x7 adverse events following immunisation centres.
A three-judge Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant dismissed a Public Interest Litigation filed by the Universal Health Organisation challenging the campaign on safety and consent grounds.

HPV is a group of viruses transmitted mainly through sexual contact. Persistent infection with certain high-risk types causes almost all cervical cancer, and vaccinating girls before exposure prevents the infection that would later become the disease.
