A study of red-naped ibises in Udaipur has found a wide range of gut bacteria in their droppings, including multidrug-resistant strains.
Researchers from Mohanlal Sukhadia University analysed 45 faecal samples and 60 bacterial isolates, publishing the results in the journal EcoHealth.
About 40 per cent of the isolates resisted at least three classes of antibiotics, including the third-generation cephalosporin cefotaxime, with reduced susceptibility to the carbapenem imipenem.
