The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on 16 September 2026 notified a reconstituted 18-member Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), led by chairperson Shashi Shekhar Vempati.
It was reconstituted under Section 3(1) of the Cinematograph Act, 1952 and Rule 3 of the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024, for three years or until further orders.
Members include Preity Zinta, Pankaj Tripathi, Suniel Shetty, Priyadarshan and Ricky Kej; five of the 18 are women. Waman Kendre and Ramesh Patange were retained.
The previous board was formally constituted in August 2017 and continued beyond its term until now.

Split UA into age-based UA 7+, UA 13+ and UA 16+; made certificates perpetual; added penal provisions against film piracy
