The WEF's Global Gender Gap Index 2026, released on 16 September 2026, ranks India 131st of 145 economies, the same rank as in 2025.
India's parity score rose slightly, to 64.5% from 64.4%. Educational Attainment (96.6%) is its best subindex and Political Empowerment (24.5%) its weakest.
Iceland is first for another year (93%), followed by Finland and Norway. Australia enters the top 10 for the first time. Chad, Iran and Pakistan are the bottom three.
The global gap is 69.2% closed. At the current pace, full parity will take 120 years.
